I really want to like this place. It is a beautiful space, and the menu has so much potential. I feel like this could be a great restaurant but inconsistencies in the food (salt) and service spoil what would otherwise be a pleasant dining experience. I’ve eaten here three times. The first (pre pandemic) was enjoyable. However in my last two visits, at least one of our dishes was so salty that it boarded on inedible. Last time I was here, it was the shrimp and grits. This time it was the dirty chicken cobb salad. I say this as someone who has a pretty heavy palate and enjoys salty and spicy foods. Halve the salt. Decrease the sauce ratio. I also had poor service the last two times we were here. Last time, our waiter told us what “dishes to avoid”. He pressured us to not order something we had planned on ordering. Though, maybe this is really a food/menu issue. This time, our waitress basically yelled at us when we received our food. We had ordered a supplemental fried chicken thigh with one of two salads, and we were thus confused when we received identical salads. The waitress made us feel like it was our fault for expecting something different???
Great food in a great spot. The restaurant itself is big and beautiful. The food is just fantastic. This was my second time there in a year. Loved it both times.
We booked on line beforehand because it seemed busy especially during the cherry blossom festival even right at opening. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and clean. We ordered the shrimp and grits, the cheese burger and the hummingbird cake. The grits was lukewarm but flavorful so they might have been sitting for a little while before being served. The burger was good but nothing very special. You could do better but you can also do a lot worse too. I would say the high end of good but not great. The cake was very good but a bit much even though we split it between two people. I would recommend the cake but make sure you leave room for it as it is a really good cake. Not too dry but also not soaked in syrup to make it moist. Overall we are glad we tried this place and would say if you are in the area and would like a little nicer meal it might be a good spot to try, but make a reservation as we seen several people get turned away due to it being too full.
The food was phenomenal! Would definitely come back again!
This Iconic restaurant has been one of our favorite restaurant when we are in town. We have been to the National Harbor location but really love the food and service at the DC location. The service and attention to the customer was of the outmost importance. .We loved that the manager came over to check on experience. Our server Keeile was amazing, with superior customer service, he was a delight. We felt that his selections of pairing the foods was together for an foody experience was wonderful. His timely checking was always welcoming to see if we needed anything for a food experience. We especially enjoyed his stories that seem to add to whole experience. I highly recommend Keile for an amazing experience. Management should use him as a trainer for new employees, this is what a devoted employee looks like. Keile this is Hockey girl, I hope you remember my husband and myself talking about hockey,
My wife and I did the"Taste of the South" and it was a great experience. The cocktails here are some of the best we've ever had. Jakarri was amazing and everything he recommended was spot on. Thanks again for the great evening Jakarri!
