Square & Compass, Darley Dale

We were lucky enough to be among the first guests after the take-over by new owners and the refurb of the rooms. What a beautiful room we had :) The decor details are thoughtful and stylish and consider the old character of the inn. The furniture is proper oak and good quality, the bed comfy, the bathroom finished to a high spec with all the creature comforts one likes to have when far from home. The breakfast was yummy and freshly prepared and the hosts were friendly and open to help where they could. And, the hot chocolate is divine. The pub was a lovely place to hang out in so all in all, a very pleasant stay and we'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

Good service and food. I was well behaved and was treated to an extra scoop of ice cream.

A fabulous place to stay, we stayed for two nights and I have to say it was a pleasure. The owners Alan & Suzanne made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We stayed in the Sycamore room which was very comfortable and provided all the usual comforts you expect in a well run establishment the only issue was you could not control the heating in the bathroom which made it uncomfortable in the night. We had food both nights and it is excellent, very good quality and well cooked. The bar staff are very attentive and welcoming. A good range of beers, wine and spirits. The locals are very friendly. Ideal place near to local attractions of Matlock and Cromford. We would stay again if in the area. Wishing Alan & Suzanne the very best of luck in there new venture. Andy & Linda

Spent 2 nights here last weekend - staff welcoming, friendly, attentive. Good beer and food. Great room. Dog friendly with walks easily accessible from the door. What more can you ask for?

I stayed at the Square & Compass for 2 nights with a group of old friends for a reunion this weekend. New managers, Alan & Suzanne and their staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. We loved the decor and facilities of the recently renovated bedrooms, the warm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the pub, not to mention really great food and drink. It's a beautiful location near the river, open fields and hills and yet only a short drive into Matlock. It was exactly what we needed. We will definitely return.

Called in for a quick drink en-route to our cottage. Lovely warm welcome from the landlord and landlady Suzanne. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back. Keep up the good work you two!!
