Visited here on Friday 19th April, as we were staying at a nearby hotel as it was actually recommended by a previous employer of the pub. On arrival downstairs was quite full, we was told if we could find somewhere to sit, we would be served, no one mentioned to us there was an upstairs, but we heard the lady behind the bar tell people that came in after us, "there's space upstairs", so we headed up there & asked for a table for two, the lady with coloured hair instantly looked at us and said " we're fully reserved until later" mind you they had just sat the people before us, and it was totally empty, so i said, "no tables at all" she said "NO" . Then a lovely gentleman comes up and says " hi would you like a table for two, you can sit anywhere you like" shocked i asked again "so there are tables as we were just told different, he said yes we definitely have space" As two Black women, we pondered on it, and very quickly came to the conclusion, we would not be eating where we were not welcomed, just because of the colour of our skin, and the ignorance of others. Thank you to the gentleman upstairs who was very nice, but some of the other employees need to be educated on how to treat people.

Fantastic pub, with excellent food and beer. The staff go beyond the norm to please you. It's got a lovely atmosphere ,whether you like a lively pub atmosphere or a quieter intimate restaurant upstairs from the bar. We came down for a theatre visit and we'd love to come back to see the friendly faces at the Roebuck. Thanks so much !

Ate here with my husband last Saturday evening. We had a reservation but stood waiting for some time before we were even acknowledged by the staff that passed by us multiple times. We were finally seated in the way back next to the toilets despite passing at least 8 more desirable open tables that were not reserved nor did anyone sit at them for most of the duration of our meal. After ordering a drink for my husband and a bottle of water for the table as well as our meals, she returned with my husband’s drink to tell us they were out of our meal choices. They were out of 2 starters and 3 mains at 7pm on a Saturday night. I asked again for the water and ultimately had to fill my glass in the bathroom, luckily I was sitting right next to it. Finally flagged down another staff person for the water. Our waitress returned with our meals, placing mine on the edge of the table instead of in front of me which was wide open, thought it was going to fall off the table before I grabbed it. She never checked on us for the rest of the evening, I had to ask another staff person for our bill. My husband had the steak pie which was good, I had the chicken which was not good, swimming in butter. The chips were delicious and the decor of the restaurant is very nice.

So, I booked here for a Sunday roast. My mistake as I’d forgotten to mention we would have a dog with us. I called ahead a few hours before and spoke with Marie, she was super accommodating. Upon our arrival, 4 adults, a dog and a cat! We were instantly greeted by a busy and vibrant bar area. The staff were friendly and engaging, whilst working tirelessly. We were shown to our table towards the back of the bar area. The food was fantastic as was the wine and beer selection. A special mention to Marie who came over and took our orders she is the landlady/owner and she has immense pride in her job. She was fantastic and we will definitely be back. We had a mooch upstairs and I have to say the refurb is stunning. Big thumbs up and can’t wait to return!!

Poor service and out of three mains and two starters at 7PM on a Saturday. Apparently there were specials but we were never informed
