Jambalaya was so good. The cornbread was amazing. The gumbo was not my favorite. The gumbo lacked the dark roux and had too flour. My daughter had the fried fish and it was amazingly great - like the best I have had in Baton Rouge.
Really great food! Fast and friendly service too.
Staff is very friendly. 1st time here and they were patient as we looked over menu. Food is excellent. We had sample plate of jambalaya, seafood gumbo, and boudin. Tucked away in storefront but definitely worth the stop.
Fair price, great taste, friendly staff and large portions.
Imagine if you will, getting a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal. Now, the marshmallows would represent the protein or meats and the cereal itself is the rice. I basically paid 18 bucks for a heaping bowl of soggy cereal with a sprinkle of marshmallows. This might be acceptable for Baton Rouge, but this is downright horrible jambalaya compared to what I get in New Orleans. Please, I beg of you, go to any well regarded restaurant in New Orleans to order some jambalaya and tell me that what you serve is comparable or even acceptable. You should strive for greatness and elevate your customers spirits with your food. Sadly, there is zero passion in the food served here. The folks at the McDonald's near this place greeted me with a smile when I placed my order inside. The guy who handled my order at Rice and Roux obviously wanted to be somewhere else not dealing with people. Oh well...
Pizza bites would be great if allowed to cool off a bit before giving to little kids. They were very hot, I finished my meal before my kid could start theirs. Also, where’s the ZYDECO music?! we love it here still though!
