Amazingly, this coffee was once thought to be lost to the world; it took over 100 years for this prized cultivar to be rediscovered because it was hidden amongst the lush jungles of Sumatra. Since then, these ancient Arabica trees have been replanted near Lake Takengon in West Sumatra, which is now world-famous for its production of gourmet coffee.Sumatra 'Black Satin' coffee is darkly roasted to produce a full and heavily bodied cup with mild, earthy undertones. Low in acidity and smooth, this dark roast coffee has a smoky aroma and a slight black pepper finish.The best aspect about this coffee is that it is certified Fair-Trade as well as organic. This means that not only is it gentle on the earth and nurtured by its natural environment, it also benefits the farmers who produce it. Roast Level 2 out of 5 (Light/Medium)These beans are grown in the Sidamo province of Ethiopia, the region where coffee was first discovered. This is the Garden of Eden of coffee beans! As a direct trade farm, the farmers, their families, and the community benefit directly from the sale of their coffee beans. As a micro-lot, this coffee crop comes from a very small area, meaning that the flavor isn't mixed with other coffees from the rest of the country. We recommend choosing 2% or Fat Free milk as it foams more appropriately. If you prefer a classic foamy cappuccino, request dry. If you prefer less foam, request wet.
