Super nice lady was running the place and I was in there for one thing and one thing only: Maytag Cheese! Getting Maytag cheese in the hotel. Maytag? Are you kidding me? Is there anything else on this planet that make you prouder to be an American in Iowa? I think not.

This great bar and Maytag blue cheese store is inside the old Maytag hotel. The hotel is now apartments and also has a gift shop. There is a full bar so while we shopped for our cheese, we had a couple of fantastic martinis. They have a small appetizer and charcuterie menu.I grew up in Newton years ago, this is a great renovation on the square!

Went for some Maytag blue cheese. Very nice little business.

I’m sure it’s a great experience, being in the historical building & all, but when I drove down today to purchase two 2# wheels of Maytag Blue, the place was locked up. Maytag Farm’s website showed store to be open at 10am. Learned after reaching owner(?) on phone, opening time was noon. Waited until 12:15 & was let in by a resident. Business was closed when I left at 12:25. Repeated phone calls until 12:45 went unanswered. Spoke to Maytag Farms afterwords & found out I can order directly from them & pick up at plant. Hopefully, this can be remedied as this outlet is doing a disservice. Wasted 4 hours of driving down from Cedar Falls for nothing…

My husband and I love coming in to see Dan, Leesa, & staff! Best place in town for a cocktail and conversation! Service is always awesome and the charcuterie boards are beautiful done. Keep an eye out of special events too they are a blast!
