I absolutely love Nicky’s Thai and have been going there since 2009. I have an issue though with their new automatic 20% tip policy. I’m all for tipping and all for servers making a livable wage. I make a point to tip 20% for decent service, and more for good service. My issue is that it’s automatically added, regardless of the service. It’s now by definition, no longer a tip, it’s a 20% price increase. Just raise your prices 20% and call it what it is. That would be fine, but I don’t subscribe to this automated mandatory “tip” nonsense.
I really want to see an upgrade in their menu. This place is great for someone who prefers to eat mildly spiced food. As an Indian, no matter what cuisine I eat, one thing that's important for me in my food is taste. It's a great place to try Thai food though.
For baseball fans: You don’t need to worry about wild pitches bouncing off the backstop or pickoff moves where the ball sails over the first baseman’s head. This is a straight ahead four-seam fastball that you pick up right out of the pitcher’s glove. On the other hand, you won’t be dazzled by the late, hard break of a slider or a wide-looping slurve unexpectedly gliding in and down on the plate. There’s no chance you will be surprised by a knuckleball, let alone an eephus - and the four out of five spice level certainly didn’t bring the high heat. For those of you who are not baseball fans: Good Thai food for the area, good service, nice atmosphere. I’m not a fan of the mandatory 20% service fee for parties of 9 or fewer. Also, I guess it is to be expected that portion sizes have suffered shrinkflation from what I remember of Thai food in the past. But these are just ‘get off my lawn’ complaints. A fine place to go for a reliable Pad Thai Noodle plate and the like.
What a wonderful surprise to find this place... Great service, an delicious food... Must go everytime I visit Pitt..!
Nickys is the best Thai, in the city and always a stellar experience from top to bottom. A must try. Parking: Gravel lot attached to restaurant right off the highway. Take care of curb pulling in and out.
