Nathaniel Reid Bakery

My husband and I just went here for the first time after hearing wonderful things about this bakery for awhile. We ordered a cappuccino, chai tea latte, breakfast sandwich, ham and gruyere croissant, and chocolate almond croissant. Overall, it was a mediocre experience and we likely won't be going out of our way to visit again. The savory croissant and breakfast sandwich tasted amazing! The almond and chocolate croissant was incredibly disappointing though because the bottom was overdone and the middle was just raw dough (see picture). Likely this occurred due to the thickness of the pastry and trying to batch bake too quickly. The coffee and tea were average, nothing special. Atmosphere is a bit chaotic. We had issues at the register because the cashier couldn't read the notations of the person at the beginning of the line who took our order and there was also one item missing. I will say that the cashier handled this well, but it took a bit of going back and forth to make sure that our order was in fact correct. Parking limited and really nowhere to sit and eat because their counters facing the windowfront were not accessible due to the line to order wrapping around store.

My family went here today. I got the chocolate almond croissant (10/10- I’m obsessed!!!) And my husband got the breakfast sandwich which he said was okay. My toddler got a macaron. The reason I put 3/5 stars for “atmosphere” is because I think more seating would do this place wonders.

There is not a bad thing here. The prosciutto sandwich is a gem. Grab some fancy desserts while there, as well as a coffee.

After leaving the Laumiere Sculpture Park, I wanted to get desserts in the area, and I stumbled upon this place with so many great reviews! I just had to see this place for myself. This store was in a small shopping area with decent parking spots in front of the shop. All the items displayed in the shops looked delectable and freshly made. I ordered these desserts and pastries: the Jarmo and the strawberry panna cotta. They were so, so good! I'll come back to this bakery for more goods next time! The staff were super friendly, and the service was fast. There are plenty of sitting areas if you enjoy your desserts in the shop.

Their food is excellent, and this was our second visit. However, our ordering experience this time was less pleasant. The staff member assisting us with the pastries seemed to need better training in customer response. I attempted to point out an item, as I couldn’t read the handwritten tag (other items had printed names). Instead of asking, “Do you mean this one?” for clarification, she replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Later, while she was checking out our items, there were three paper boxes to close. One box was directly in front of me, so as she closed another, I reached out to help with the one in front of me. My intention was to expedite the process since there was a line forming behind us. However, when I touched the box, she quickly told me that she would handle it, speaking in a tone one might use to deter a child from misbehaving. This experience dampened our enthusiasm for the otherwise delicious pastries.

Absolutely exquisite! We tried almost every offering they had for specialty desserts that day. Everything was delicate, well balanced, and bursting with flavor... as an even more exciting treat. My daughter got to meet Nathaniel, and he was kind and welcoming. This is an absolute must if you are ever in STL.
