We ate at Moonstone Bistro on a trip to California and had Eric who was an amazing and attentive server. The cornbeef hash and Benedict and they were absolutely delicious. Would absolutely come back.
Amazing meal. Server was awesome. Desert was a 10
It’s been at least a year since we’ve been here, so we decided to try it again. Our first experience was wonderful, our second experience was so so as well as this one. We had the airline chicken breast, my husband said his was tough, mine was good. The gravy/sauce was mediocre. I had to add a lot of salt to get any flavor. I had a lavender/berry/lemon drop that was fabulous and my husband had a superb glass of wine. As someone mentioned in a previous review, the homemade rolls are delicious and are the highlight of the meal. We asked to see the dessert menu (The people sitting next to us said we should try the chocolate sundae) We asked our server for a dessert menu as we were curious about the Sundae. He said he could just tell us about the Sundae and stated it was vanilla ice cream with caramel and housemaid chocolate ganache. I asked for a tiny bit of ganache on the side and he said no problem. They brought the Sunday in a tall (Somewhat narrow ) glass, it had two scoops of ice cream and whipped cream on the top. Most of the ganache was swirled on the plate and down the sides of the sundae with some on the inside. When I ask where the side of ganache was, our server said that they put it at the bottom of the ice cream. So, by the time we were done with the two scoops of ice cream, all the ganache was at the bottom. When we looked at our receipt we were surprised to see that the Sundae was $18, and the extra ganache was an additional $3. So essentially $21 for a two scoop chocolate sundae. We found that to be an over-the-top price for what was served to us. Another thing to mention was the people sitting next to us. They arrived well after us, however they were served their dinner first. We were given one dinner roll each with one scoop of garlic butter for the two of us. When our server gave the people sitting directly next to us their rolls they each got a portion of garlic butter. I made a joke asking her how she got extra butter and she said that the server knew them. So it was a little awkward, seeing the extra special treatment, 2 feet away from us. I’m sorry to have rated it so low but that was our experience. I think others should know if you don’t look at the menu you should definitely ask the price of the dessert ♀️
I am always impressed with the quality of the food, the friendly service and great drinks. This is a fantastic place to go for a date night, Sunday brunch or just when you're in the mood for something nice. Highly recommend the patio when the weather suits it, but inside is quiet and intimate as well. Try it, you'll love it here!
My family's favorite to go to place.
I’ve been to Moonstone a few times over the years. There are a few exceptional things about this place. They have an amazing Chocolate Soufflé that has never failed to impress. Possibly the best soufflé I’ve ever had and I have eaten a lot of soufflé over the years haha. The service has always been good, waiters are usually very prompt and know the menu well. Definitely call in advance to make sure they have room or make a reservation though. If you show up during the height of dinner service, there’s a chance you can’t be seated or you’ll have to wait for someone to not show. These are the pros. The food here sounds good on paper, but typically has failed to meet my expectations. I had a pineapple Coleslaw that seemed very refreshing sounding, but ended up just being chopped cabbage with extra cabbage on the side and no flavor. The slaw covered up half the plate and its mountain would slide down to the table every time you tried to scoop some onto your fork. The pork spare ribs that laid on top looked scrumptious, but had too much peanut butter in its house made sauce (yes peanut butter). The meat was also very fatty, and I only had a few decent bites. It was nearly stone cold when I took the first bite. The chicken soup I had was good, but contained way too much celery. Every bite had several chunks of celery and it really took away from the actual flavor of the soup, which was very good. They have complimentary house made rolls here and some type of garlic butter. Honestly the rolls were highlight of my meal besides the soufflé. I like that they change the menu regularly so I can taste different dishes, but I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a full meal here in months. If it weren’t for the soufflé and lovely staff I don’t think I’d try it again.
Place is way overpriced and food at best is below average
It is probably our 5th time coming in. It is my husband’s birthday and we wanted to try this wonderful place for our dinner tonight for his celebration! Everything turned out amazing! We truly support them as part of our beautiful community! Thank you, Moonstone Bistro for a wonderful Birthday dinner!
