Bon service de Sonny, bonne musique, bonne nourriture, tout était parfait!
Being a local, I've never actually been to many Vieux Montreal restaurants because I often thought: "There's another tourist trap with over inflated prices and subpar food." At least from my experience at Modavie, I could not be further from the truth. From the moment you walk in, you can sense a great atmosphere in the restaurant as people indulged in each other's company, the live music and most importantly, the outstanding food. My wife and I came to Modavie to try their "Happening Gourmand" menu. We started with the Gratin Escargots and Beef Tartare. The 1608 cheese they used from Charlevoix for their Escargots was divine. We followed this up two spectacular main courses of Duck Confit, a melt in your mouth duck leg with hints of coffee and Amaretto, and a pasta dish of lamb cavatelli, one the best pasta dishes I've ever the pleasure of tasting. We finished the meal with a nice Creme Brulee and gigantic Profiterole, smothered in beautiful dark chocolate. All of this food for $59! A genuine steal! We had a few cocktails as well, which were quite good but nothing extraordinary. Try their Sugar Shack cocktail! Our waitress, Jess, was attentive and answered any questions we had, even offering to exchange a cocktail that my wife was not enamored with. Brilliant and appreciated! A genuine thank you to Jess, contributing to the pleasant evening we had. To top it all off, I asked to be seated next to the music, which as a great extra touch that they took care of. Whether, tourist or local, this is a place I would love to come back to, whether Happening Gourmand or otherwise. A packed house on a Wednesday night is a testament to the great vibe and food they have to offer. Do take take advantage of their promotion, at $59 dollars for a three course experience, what's not to love! Parking: Can be difficult, depending on the day of the week. Paid parking lot is expensive, street parking can be difficult as it is Vieux Montreal.
Me and my boyfriend came here with high expectations considering this place is on the ‘top rated’ lists of restaurants in Montreal. Very overrated place. Surprisingly the food was really disappointing, for the price paid we expected a lot more flavour but we could’ve made better at home. Only 2-3 choices of wine by the glass or excessive prices for bottles. I’ve eaten at many other places for 20-30$ per person and got better food. Save your money. Only thing that was good was the service and live jazz.
