This *"southern tradition" is now available 7 days a week! *What tradition you might ask! In the days of boiling black cauldrons of wash water, a #3 wash tub of lye water, rinse and bluing, southern ladies did the family wash on Mondays. Being a time consuming, back breaking task, dinner for the hungry family literally went to the back burner. A large pot of red kidney beans was put on in the morning, cooked and simmered throughout the day with little attention other than adding water and maybe sausage or a ham bone leftover from Sunday. When the wash was done and the family sat down at night - voila, red beans and rice for supper!!!
