Miniscule yields combined with the cold temperatures produced elegant wines of modest alcohol and zesty freshness. I found this bottling so exciting in its vibrant acidity and nervy tension- it felt alive in my mouth! The fruit flavors were so fresh, pure and juicy, and the interplay of acidity and oak just felt perfect. The flavors I was reminded of ranged from citrus, poached pear, and white peach to delicious fresh cream, hints of toast, and lots of stone mineral notes. There's a faint hint of savory herbs running through- tarragon maybe? The lifted feeling carries through the looooooooong finish. This will keep getting better for the next 8-10 years.

Production is an ample 70,000 bottles. This lovely vintage shows dark fruit intensity and richness with cherry, blackberry and plum. There is a touch of sweetness, but the mouthfeel is well constructed and layered with phenolic tightness and tight natural structure that will help it age 10 years or more. Le Cupole is one of the best values found in Tuscany.

The wine reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as complex notes of red and black fruits, green tobacco, cedary spice, and spring flowers. These all flow to a medium to full-bodied, elegant wine that offers good overall concentration, seamless tannins, and a great finish. Very much in the style of the 2018 vintage with its more streamlined, elegant style, it’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age (although it’s far from unapproachable today) and keep for a solid 10-12 years or more. This is one of the more age-worthy examples of this cuvée that I recall. James Suckling 93 Blackberry and asphalt aromas with some violets and rose petals. Medium to full body. Some carbon to the dark fruit. Tasty and delicious. Chewy now, but we like it already. Drinkable now, but will improve with age.

Yet, the perceived sweetness on the nose is just that, perceived, and doesn’t carry through to the palate. A barrel sample, the 2017 Fulldraw Vineyard is composed of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, fully destemmed then fermented in a single open-top tank. It will be aged 28 months in small and large French oak barrels before bottling without fining or filtration. Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with bold Morello cherries, raspberry preserves and mulberries scents plus touches of stewed tea, cinnamon stick, allspice and garrigue, with a waft of dusty soil. The 2018 Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif is powerful and lasting on the palate. This wine is not shy as it surrounds the palate with ripe, grapey fruits and wood. Enjoy it with wood-smoked short ribs, and bring a good appetite to the table.

This is a big, black, juicy Petite Sirah with notes of toasted herbs, deep boysenberry fruit and prunes alongside tobacco, black cherry, and baking spices. The style of this wine is full throttle and no holds barred - rich, ripe, and begging for a big rack of prime rib. If you love Caymus Cabernet, you’re going to flip for this one.

Revealing a dense purple color as well as a killer nose of blueberries, chocolate-covered cherries, scorched earth, tobacco, violets, and exotic spices, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, pure, incredibly layered mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great, great finish. As with most top 2017s, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with notable structure and impressive concentration. It has some up-front appeal given its purity of fruit and balance, yet it's going to take 7-8 years to hit prime time and will be a long-lived bottle of Napa Cabernet.
