Gluten free. Blended. Yul brynner was a well-known actor who was probably most famous for playing the king in "The kind and i" on Broadway and the east-end in London, which he did for many years (over 5000 performances). The show was a musical, but yul wasn't a trained singer, and as a result he suffered from swollen vocal cords fairly often. Marlene decided to make him a curative soup to help him reduce inflammation. While carrots were the base, she also used ginger, garlic, fennel, cumin and turmeric to tighten the vocal cords, and reduce swelling. The result is a delicious soup that’s really good for you, even if you can't act or sing! In the mid 80’s my mother and i made batches of the stuff for yul when he did his last Broadway theater revival run on west 53rd street. Comes with grated ginger as a garnish. Add croutons for crunch. Carrots, vegetable stock/broth, fresh fennel, yellow onions, turmeric, cumin, olive oil, butter, fresh ginger, salt, pepper, parsley, garlic, and fresh chives.
