Superb Afghan food. Fresh, authentic taste. Great variety. Even the side dishes are meticulously crafted. Best Afghan restaurant in DC.

Delicious every time. The Qabuli Palow is excellent and the Kofta and dumplings are great too. At brunch, get the cardamom rose water pancakes and some of their spiced chai. I have to commend them for going above and beyond to accommodate my requests for a very large group - they made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

Finally! Something in the lines of Sarma in Boston. We went here for our anniversary and enjoyed the array of vegetarian options Lapis has. However there were frequent long periods of time when there was no server in the room. The server forgot my tea order and we were done with everything by the time a server showed up so we could remind them. The tables for two are rather small so it’s difficult to manage the food. Note that it’s not mentioned on the menu (there’s a sign on welcome desk) but there’s a flat 20% service charge irrespective of the number of people.

In a culinary scene where value meets price, there’s an Afghani spot that's more than just nice. With dishes so rich, they justify the cost, and a friendly management team, you're never at a loss. Though it’s pricier than some, the experience shines through, making each bite a testament to flavors true. And if by chance the night grows old and dim, remember, they serve later, catering to a late-night whim.

Good service. Good vegetarian options. Nice atmosphere. This is how American restaurants whatever the cuisine is evolving. This place has arrived. The birthday personal recalled her last Afghanistan meal in Oakland 50 years ago was sitting on the floor and eating with her hand. Lapis is a universe away from that with three courses costing around 80 bucks per person. They have lots of vegetarian options and the decor is nice. But it is a modern DC restaurant and the prices reflect that. #afghanfood

My partner visited your establishment and was double charged on a bill that was supposed to have been split down the middle - charged for the full bill, and then half of it again. Your establishment was called over a week ago and we were told to email about the issue. Multiple emails were sent without a single response. I find it absolutely disgusting that your staff cannot spend even a minute of time addressing these concerns about an inaccurate total that was charged, amounting to multiple hundreds of dollars. I, and everyone I know, will never again frequent your restaurant and expect a charge-back on your accounts.
