Kuma Boba (Bubble Tea)

I really had high hopes for this place after it was recommended in the Vegan Detroit group on FB, but I was severely disappointed. The young girl at the counter lacked customer service. I asked her right away to confirm that they can cater their drinks to vegans and she replied, “Uhhhh, vegan? Haha, I don’t know, we can do like….non-dairy milk?” And I was like ok, cool. I ordered the Taro Coconut Milk Tea with non-dairy milk. My fiance just ordered a latte with non-dairy milk. After he ordered, she asked him his non-dairy milk preference, which she never asked me, she had no idea what kind of milk I wanted. And when she went to complete the transaction, I chimed in and said do I get the same choices? And she nonchalantly gave me my options. Very sketchy…. To the side I could see a bottle of real milk and another girl making my drink, as she comes over to get ice, she asked “this is with oat milk too?” In a kind of surprised tone.. immediately after drinking it, I felt very sick. It’s been 24 hours of severe stomach pains. I have a very strong suspicion that she used really milk in my drink, or something in the drink went bad. My fiancé had no reaction to his drink.

Omg. Their ‘small’ menu does NOT hinder this place at all. I’ve been here twice now when I’m in the area and every drink has been amazing. They are very kind and helpful. The glass jars are super cool! Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

My favorite boba shot

I use to go here back in 2020-2021 during Covid so I couldn’t go in. Today my bf and I went in for the first time and the place is so cute! Lady that was in was nice and friendly offered to let us try the sweet cheese cream (so good! They put it on their cold brews). I love the little jars. When we went in they had Valentine’s Day decorations. Super cute. I love how they use glass jars and if you bring them back you get a discount. Their original Kuma milk tea is so good! My bf doesn’t like tapioca pearls so he got a chocolate milk tea with the sweet cream cheese. Both so good!

Quick and really good Boba! I got the matcha milk tea and it tastes awesome! Also really unique because you get a glass cup to keep!!

I ordered a strawberry milk tea from ubereats and wrote in the instructions not to give dairy milk and substitute with coconut milk or any other milk that’s not dairy. I received a whole different drink (not even sure what it was) and it was with dairy milk. I felt nauseous after drinking a few sips since I am lactose intolerant. Nothing too serious happened though. I was disappointed but not upset because mistakes happen. The drink wasn’t so bad but couldn’t enjoy it due to the milk.

This has been the only boba place I've been ordering from for awhile and I'm happy to say this is the best boba in my opinion!
