Food on fish fry was ok. I got impression fish was prewarmwd and not cooked to order because we received the fish fry minutes after order. I was surprised we had to pay extra for the potatoe pancakes usually its a choice with no extra up charged. Service was fast. Nice atmosphere. A summary fish fry was ok and had better fish fries at other locations. Prices were fair.
Fish fry was really good Service was good but one order was wrong so they had to wait Not sure how the shrimp are made breading was good but the shrimp were like mush A nice touch is always have a manager asking how everything was shows you care
I was in town on business from New York and wanted to try a German Restaurant. Kegel’s was a great decision, good food, great service and a really nice old world atmosphere. I’ll definitely come again
Dietary restrictions: We love it here! I have celiacs and the menu now offers several gluten free options! I could order separate items as well to eat gluten free as well.
Great spot! Fish was awesome, staff are nice. The owners are creative. Super cool to eat at a slice of Milwaukee history 100 years in the making. Good beer selection of German beers and some locally made German styles as well!
Went for a Wednesday night fish fry. The bear battered cod was marvelous, and French fries crispy. Bread, Tatar sauce, and coleslaw were good. I had a root beer, and my wife had a glass of Merlot. Wonderful atmosphere with great woodwork. We were created warmly as we entered, and our waitress (Mary) was attentive.
amazing old school German, a national treasure... try anything, it's all done well
Wonderful German theme, good service although their "Cabin Manhattan" which i asked for "up" when i was asked if i wanted brandy(?), was served neat in a rocks glass, so had to go to bar to get it chilled and at least served in a martini glass (which was not chilled!). Fish Fry selection is good and food is generally on par or slightly better than your average fish fry. However, its pricey for what you get, i ordered a grouper fish fry with loaded baked potato, that was $20 and only had 1 piece of fish! My wife ordered walleye with potato pancakes, 2 small fillets and 1 pancake for $18. WE WILL HAPPILY PAY MORE THAN THIS FOR A FISH FRY, BUT IT MUST BE GOOD FOOD WITH A GOOD QUANTITY (we typically take home left overs and ENJOY them again in a few nights). FOR THE GOOD FOOD HERE BUT SMALL PORTIONS, THESE SHOULD HAVE BEEN $12 AND $14 PRICES
We enjoy German food and have wanted to go here for a while, having heard good things about it. We dined on a winter week night. The restaurant was not that busy, as one would expect that time of year. The service was excellent from greeting through departure and nice atmosphere, as well. The food was okay, but definitely not outstanding. We have had many tasty German entrees over the years that we have raved about. This was good, but definitely not something we will promote. Also, the portion sizes were small and the prices were high. Yes, food costs have gone up, but this was not in line with what we have experienced at many other restaurants. So you can make your own call, our total bill, including tip, was $120 for two people, one drink each, no appetizer, no dessert. We are glad that we finally tried Kegel's Inn, but probably won't go back. The rating is a 3.5 star rounded up.
