When American troops left the Philippines at the end of World War II, they left behind hundreds of jeeps, which were quickly scooped up and tricked out by the locals, who made them their own and gave them a new name: jeepneys. At Jeepney, chef & restaurateur Nicole Ponseca is channeling that same uniquely Filipino sense of creativity and independence. When the fun & lively Jeepney opened in New York’s East Village in 2012, it quickly became a sensation, introducing many New Yorkers to the wonders of authentic Filipino cuisine. It’s since relocated to Miami, where it’s made just as big a splash in the city’s Wynwood neighborhood. The legendary Filipino dishes that put Jeepney on the map are now available in Miami!
