Marsanne is a great grape that makes wines that are remarkably long lived. When young it exhibits aromas of wet stone, under ripe peaches with a hint of honey. As it ages, it takes on more of a honey nut character, with mineral and lanolin undertones. I recommend either drinking it in the first couple years after release for its freshness, or waiting at least 10 years to enjoy all the complexity that this wine can offer.

Yes, this is classic Chablis, where Chardonnay speaks with a clipped and flinty accent, but there’s also a beautiful, sunny aspect to this wine that I was not expecting. As I got deeper into the glass, I noticed a little floral note here, a touch of ripeness there, and before I knew it, my carefully crafted analogy crumbled. Then, pretty soon afterward, the bottle was empty

"From 50 year old Chardonnay vines with a south east orientation at the foot of the rock of Vergisson. Farmed without chemicals and harvested by hand. The wine is fermented with Indigenous yeasts and then aged in stainless steel. Although considered 'minimal intervention' this is a lovely, clean expression of Chardonnay. The minerality is evident straight up, as is the juicy white stonefruit, a touch of baked apple and wonderful acidity, leading to a lovely saline, tart finish. This 100% Cabernet Franc is gorgeous! Fermented and macerated for 28 days, giving us a beautiful royal purple hue, in French oak, the wine is aged for nine months in 400 liter barrels with 40% going into 4000 liter barrels. Caroline said she wanted "to make an easy and fresh wine" and she nailed it! It's pretty, a little juicy with dark fruit and a mouthwatering acidic finish.

"The 2018 Scharzhof QbA was bottled a bit earlier than anything else in the cellars this year, as the mise for this wine was on the last day of February of 2019. The wine carries twenty-eight grams of residual sugar this year and is 10.5 percent alcohol, so it is a bit fuller-bodied in personality than the 2017. However, the wine is lovely in 2018, offering up a classic nose of green apple, petrol, pear, wild yeasts and a fine base of slate minerality.
