Delicious food, sweet staff, awesome vibe.
Amazing dinner, big dishes for a honest price. Also the waiters were really nice to us. Would recommend!
Great restaurant if you’re in the mood for Ethiopian food. The doro wat was exactly what I was expecting. There was a slight miscommunication in what I ordered and what I got. I get it. Mistakes happen. Props for management to dealing with it without getting combative. I would solidly recommend.
The service was prompt and friendly, the food was delicious and well-prepared.
Ambiance was okay and the restroom was clean.
Overall, a nice dining experience.
Excellent food, service, and a very warm and cozy atmosphere. We ordered the smaller, and everything was delicious!
This is hands down the best, most flavorful Ethiopian food in the city. That's not to disparage other places - DC has great Ethiopian restaurants. But the food at Family Ethiopian is mind blowing. In terms of flavor, freshness, and variety on the menu - this is my new favorite spot. The staff are so friendly and the service is very warm and welcoming!
I had dinner with a group of friends and we had an amazing time. The place is cozy, the staff is super kind and the food is amazing! A must visit if you come to D.C. 😊
I would have loved to love this place but unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. We ordered the meat and veg combination, which was gorgeous to look at. But after a few bites, the taste of cardamom became too overwhelming for us. This would have possibly been fine in isolation, but every five minutes or so, there was a strong smell of something artificial that would fill our noses (e.g., febreze?), taking away all enjoyment from smelling the food that we were consuming. The service was impeccable, but the combination of ambience and lack of balance in flavors really threw me off, unfortunately.
Family Ethiopian delivered exactly what I'm looking for in a restaurant: a warm welcome, excellent service without pretension, and honest flavors that put satisfied smiles on our faces.
If this is your first time having Ethiopian food, go with a friend or two and order the sampler. The experience is delightful. Before long, you find yourself tearing off pieces of the moist flatbread (injera) reaching across a shared plate and encouraging each other to 'oh! Try this!' in a shared joyful meal that makes separate plates seem sterile. Each taste sparks fun conversations and ends in surprise as you look at the now empty platter - satisfied, and happy (and yet deeply wishing for more.)
Throughout the meal, the staff - though they seem more familiar than the word implies - strike a great balance between attentiveness and respectful distance. Their warm smiles feel genuine, and in all the experience feels much less like they are serving you, and more like they are sharing something personal with you through the delicious food they make.
I can't recommend Family Ethiopian enough!
Really good Ethiopian Food. It was delicious
Amazing food and super nice staff. Would give six stars if I could!!
Amazing food, great service.
This is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the area. I have been to many different Ethiopian restaurants, and this one, by far, has good service. I also like the coffee ceremony that they offer.
Delicious food and super friendly service. Definitely worth a visit!
Had the best time at Family Ethiopian Restaurant! We shared the regular vegetarian special (Chickpeas, split peas, collard greens, and cabbage) and it was amazing. We also got the Asa Dulet which was great. Overall wonderful atmosphere and attentive/kind service. Will definitely be back!
Great ambience and good food
