Founded in 1928 by Italian immigrant Emil Villa in Oakland, CA, Emil Villa's Hick'ry Pit became renowned for its delectable barbecue and irresistible pies. Emil's signature California-style barbecue and delightful desserts became town legends, drawing crowds from near and far. Despite Clorox's later acquisition aiming for a national chain with 19 stores, the original locations in Livermore, San Leandro, Hayward, and Walnut Creek have remained, still owned by families who share Emil's love for great food and companionship. In late 2023, the business was sold to Inocencio Hernandez, who started as a busboy and, 20 years later, purchased the restaurant. Big Announcement: We are moving to the Rockhouse location on Portola Avenue in Livermore.
