This is one of my favorite places to eat. The hanger steak melts in your mouth, the Yaki onigiri is great and the grilled chicken onigiri is even better. If you like stuff on sticks and handheld rice balls this is the perfect place.
Super bomb and fairly priced!
My sister and I just ordered a Chicken Yakisoba and Shiitake Dumplings from here. It was beyond yummy!!! You can take the good quality of the products, the food is super tasty and the owner it’s super friendly. We can’t wait to go back and try it again!
Been here three times so far and intend to keep coming back! Everything we've had has been so delicious. Rotating menu which is bittersweet. The noodle dishes are exceptional, highly recommend starting there. You can't go wrong with the skewers and gyoza. The chefs are also extremely kind and passionate about the food they make. This last time we were a little indecisive about which noodle dish (we went with the yakisoba with the runny egg and I've been dreaming about it ever since) and which sake to get and the Dozo chef was so helpful and patient and really made our experience that much better!
No frills food truck slinging some of the best Japanese food in Oregon. Expertly executed fare with some creative inspirations as well.
Delicious. I’ve had a ton of Japanese food because it’s one of my favorite cuisines. This place does it right! So good. I usually get the salted mackerel Onigiri and their Tonkatsu meal.
I'm torn between giving this three or four stars. The people working at the truck are friendly. I liked the barley tea. The seating in the covered outdoor area is pretty decent, and there's a foosball table to play with, so we had a lot of fun. The food, however... I couldn't finish my onigiri. I typically *love* rice, and can eat unreasonable amounts of it in one sitting, but the kombu onigiri was far too bland. The tamari one wasn't bland but I probably didn't like texture of the grilled rice, it was a bit chewier and harder than I expected. The rice was too soft on both onto that I got (or possibly it was not the right type of rice? I'm not sure!). For what it's worth, most of the onigiri I've eaten before was very authentic (from konbini in Japan, or from a konbini in Arizona that had very good onigiri). I've had worse in Eugene than Dozo has, but I've also had better in Eugene. I also got the vegan yakisoba. It's not bad but I got tired of the flavor fairly quickly so I took the rest home. It tastes a lot like the tamari onigiri, so I'm guessing tamari is the main seasoning. I like the leftovers enough to eat them, so that's probably the saving factor here for a 4-star review instead of 5. Maybe I'm picky - I would only go back if a friend or group specifically wanted to go there, or if I learned that the rice in the onigiri had improved (an ume offering would be a blessing, though I'm sure that I'm in the minority of Americans who would like it).
So so so bummed about our experience here. Not sure if I just ordered terribly wrong but it was so awful that we couldn’t eat more than a couple bites and ended up throwing it out. Eating out is rare for us so this was extremely disappointing. We got the Hanger Steak skewer, gyoza, the kombu onigiri, takoyaki, and lastly the okonomiyaki which was the biggest and worst part. The people working there were super kind and I was really excited but the only thing that was “good” was the gyoza but I have yet to have bad gyoza. It kinda tasted like everything was cooked on the same griddle thats never ever been cleaned so everything had the same mixed up “fishy” flavor. Somehow even the hanger steak tasted like fish. And not like “oh yum, fish” but like the “ew” old burnt fishy flavor. The okonomiyaki was a mess. Undercooked, and unrefined. Apparently there was pork belly somewhere in it but I didn’t see or taste any. From reading the reviews it seems like everyone loves all the things I didn’t get so I really do just think I ordered wrong. Steer clear of the okonomiyaki and the takoyaki and I’m sure it will all be okay. Sadly I won’t be returning but I really do like their logo guy and the friendly staff.
