From Matra, Hungary. Relatively short maceration, tank fermented and ready out the gate, this is quintessential red Hungarian table wine in the best possible sense. It’s immediately bright, aromatic, and has what I find in many Hungarian Kékfrankos, a spicy bitterness that’s still ripe.

Kadarka, Kékfrankos, Cabernet Sauvignon, Hamburg Muscat, The short maceration keeps the muscat aromatics fresh, but there’s still enough grip from the Cabernet, meatiness from the Kékfrankos and elegance from the Kadarka. Bottled unfined and unfiltered by gravity with zero additions.

Tramini wine from Köveskál, a tiny village north of Lake Balaton in Western Hungary, This spent 14 days on the skins. The wine is balanced and strong, with intriguing flavors of spicy orange peel and green tea. Unfiltered, unfined, and no sulfur added. Certified organic.

Szent Donát is a small organic winery located in the small village of Csopak, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton.an unfiltered, not disgorged, bone dry Pet-Nat-style white wine made from Olaszrizling. Unfiltered, unfined, not disgorged, and no sulfur added. The wine is dry and leesy, with green apple, marzipan, lemon-lime and salt.

Chillable red wine from Vinho Verde Portugal. 100 % Alvarelhão Alvarelhão is another grape varietal from Northern Portugal with a great potential to produce elegant wines. It was sourced from a small producer in Cabeceiras de Basto, situated in the Vinho Verde sub-region of Basto. After destemming, the berries were transferred to a stainless steel “Lagar” to macerate for five days and start fermenting without temperature control. Tiago Sampaio takes the pomace of a few different cuvées that are going on at the winery, both whites and reds, and puts them in concert tanks, allowing them to ferment for 24 hours. After fermentation, the must is pressed and he gets a delicious Piquette at 5.5%.
