My husband and I had lunch around 11 a.m. yesterday. We had an order of fried pickles -- DELICIOUS! -- that were free as a reward. My husband had a loaded baked potato and a small salad. The potato wasn't perfect, but overall my husband was pleased. I had Golden Carolina BBQ Chicken Tenders with green beans and okra. The chicken was quite good (in the future, I'll get the BBQ sauce on the side so that I can control the amount of sauce I eat). The green beans were way overcooked and looked and tasted awful; I couldn't eat them and didn't bring them home to treat my dogs. The okra was undercooked and didn't taste good. I brought the okra home, thinking I would cook it a bit more in bacon grease. There was such a small amount, I didn't fool with cooking it more. I tried to eat one more piece, but it was so stringy, I had to spit it out; that pod should have been tossed and not included in the serving I, or anyone else, received. Our very efficient and charming server asked how we were enjoying our food. When I told her about the green beans and okra, she offered to bring me something else. I declined the offer. With the fried pickles and chicken, I had enough, and I wasn't trying to get something for nothing, even though in this case, replacement dishes would have been appropriate. I asked the server to let the kitchen know the green beans and okra were not satisfactory (actually yucky). We ate at a Cracker Barrel in Chattanooga last week. My sides were broccoli and mashed potatoes; both were good. Our server here was gracious and offered more than once to get me something else. Southern restaurants should know how to cook green beans and okra. Both should be made fresh (i.e., not from a can or frozen, as I suspect what I was served were -- beans/canned; okra/frozen). If canned beans are used, they should be properly prepared (we had canned green beans at home last night; they were good -- not as good as fresh but good). Only fresh okra should be served in a restaurant. I've long been a customer of Cracker Barrel. A few meals like I had yesterday would quickly end that. Thank you.

Great pplace to stop and have friendly staff attend to your needs and help not only with food but questions about products in the store. Stop by if you have time and are hungry. One suggestion is that if you have new items you are introducing in the resturant you might have samples brought to the table to generate interest. That is the next level service people are looking for in the best resturants.
