My husband and I were very excited to celebrate our first wedding anniversary dinner at Charlie's, and it was unfortunately deeply unsatisfactory. The fish (slow cooked trout) was so excessively salty that it was nearly inedible, leaving a lingering unpleasant taste, and burning the top of my mouth. Even worse, my husband's chicken (half chicken) arrived raw, a blatant disregard for food safety. Despite our anticipation for a memorable evening, the lack of attention to detail in the kitchen and the subpar food quality left us deeply disappointed. I understand that mistakes happen sometimes, and the restaurant was busy but I think it is regrettable that what should have been a special occasion turned into a forgettable and disheartening ordeal.
It wasn’t anyone’s specific fault but this was one of the worst dinners we’ve had. The service was very slow (half our family is European so we like a long meal). When we asked about the service time we were told they don’t serve food unless everyone is seated. This makes sense but my wife had stepped outside because it was so hot and we had been waiting so long for our food. They then reheated the same food, took way too long to deliver it and generally ignored us. They still asked if we wanted dessert or coffee despite the fact we had been there for 2.5+ hours at that point and wanted to leave. It will be great for most but it was a terrible experience for us. ($400+ spent on wine)
-The staff members were polite and attentive, without being overbearing. -The environment was sleek and classy. -The food was clearly well-made, although not something I'd write home about -The Flatbread offered created a highly unpleasant burning sensation in my throat. -The prices were somewhat offensive, considering the portions and that the food was not all that memorable -Referred to (likely) beef deckle as wagyu beef, they are NOT the same thing. -Only one, single-person restroom. -Tables were "reservation only" so we were forced to sit at the bar. There were plenty of unused tables, I'd wager the majority. -The bar seats were hard and wooden, without much accommodation in the way of a foot rest. I was so cramped that I couldn't really use a utensil in my main arm without hitting the person next to me.
Love, love, love!!! Flatbread with Truffles was magnificent, the oysters were dressed well, and the fish was amazing with the sauce. Im.looking forward to returning.
Enjoyed everything about Charlie’s. We started with the gem salad. I had the wagyu beef and my wife had the half beer can chicken. So good! Great wine list and the service was outstanding. We will be back to try the fried chicken and spiny lobster - the couple next to us ordered those dishes and they looked amazing. The restaurant is on the loud side as far a noise volume but that didn’t bother us. The food and service were worth it.
My fiancée Kelly and I celebrated our engagement at Charlie's, and we could not have made a better choice! The service was incredible from the moment we were greeted by the hosts with glasses of sparkling wine. Our server, Ben, was wonderful and made our experience so special. The atmosphere is charming and our food was excellent. Definitely recommend!
