Calexico started as a street cart in 2006, and has been serving award-winning Cal-Mex cuisine in New York City ever since. Founded by 3 brothers from the border town of Calexico, California (California + Mexico = Calexico), the Union Street outpost serves elevated West Coast-style Mexican food in a cozy space in the Columbia Street Waterfront district of Brooklyn. The vibe is relaxed and fun, with an eclectic soundtrack that leans toward 60's garage rock, vintage punk, and old school hip hop. Calexico has won a good deal of recognition, winning the Vendy Award for top street vendor in New York and being voted the "Top Mexican Restaurant in New York City" by the readers of Zagat.
