PHILIPPINE-IZED INDONESIAN FOOD Originally established by Pete Alfonso in Manila in the 1950’s, Cafe Indonesia was a pioneer in exposing the Philippines to Indonesian cuisine as well as being an incubator for Filipino Jazz to thrive. 50 years after the original Cafe Indonesia closed its doors, Pete’s grandson Bobby Alfonso is attempting to reintroduce Pinoy-adapted Indo-Dutch food 7,500 miles across the pacific to San Diego and its Filipino community using original family recipes passed down by his mother and his personal culinary idol Tita Victoria Tanseco.
