The tequila was great. The flights thoughtfully selected, but the food was dreadful. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I am baffled by the good reviews of this place. This rice offended my human dignity. Anything I say will sound hyperbolic, but it was like middle school paste with peas in it. All the ingredients, except for the tongue, were treated with absolute disregard. The tortillas were store bought, you can decide if that's a plus or a minus. They ask your permission to add cilantro, which is both thoughtful and concerning. What cilantro you do get is less than a stems worth. The guacamole was fresh, but under salted. The tomatillo sauce was mostly water. I had the squash enchiladas. The squash was under cooked, the sauce lacking flavor, the tortillas seemed both too dry and too have absorbed too much sauce. I have, with White and Mexican friends, whipped up more exciting salsas in a hotel room. I didn't send it back, I haven't really encountered food this bad before. Do you send back everything and demand not to be billed? Idk, employees still deserve wages. We just ate our bad choices and are still thinking about it over a week later. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian option, but the vegetables are very poorly handled
We had a lovely supper tonight at Bickering Twins, just a casual meet up with friends. The food was delicious, the lamb was as tender as a mothers hug… not my mother but a mother nonetheless. The food was great but the real star of the show was our waitress B. B may be the second letter of the alphabet but she was number one in service. She has the face of a mother and the body of a temptress. I was praying that she would trip on something so that I could catch her with my strong arms (I bench press 220 so it would not be an issue). To B or not to B, that is the question. While I will be pondering this for days to come, B will be on my mind.
The place has delicious food but I didn't have a good experience ☹️ the waitress kept demanding that I pay her 15%, 18% or 20% tip. I was about to leave when she followed me out of the place and started asking me about the tip (as if it was mandatory to leave it). She told me that there are people working at this place that earn $12 an hour. I understand that it is not much but I do not earn much for her to demand that amount of tip from me as well. Besides, I think employees should ask their employer for more money if they don't like what they are paid, but why demand tips from customers if tipping is supposed to be optional. Anyway, I'm not going again, she started arguing with me for about 10 minutes.
Fresh, delicious and authentic. Best Mexican food around and Chef's tasting menu nights are incredible. The food is inspired, delicious and never disappoints. Staff are friendly and caring.
Was in town for only a few days and thankfully we stumbled into this gem of Ithaca. Easily some of the best service I’ve received in my life at a bar/restaurant (and I’ve worked in the industry for a bit) and the food was also incredible. An absolute must stop if you’re ever in Ithaca looking for a fun place to grab food or drinks. 10/10 would recommend and will be back
Chris is the best server. I haven’t even gotten my food yet and I had to write a review about them. They were so accommodating to special dietary restrictions, helped us through the order, refilled our water before we needed it. Looking forward to the meal haha!
Food is better than most Mexican in Ithaca, but pretty expensive. $10 for chips and guac? $20 for three tacos? Chips and salsa is extra and some entrees only come with rice or beans, not both! Kind of embarrassing. Also their story about going to Bolivia and being inspired to open a Mexican restaurant in upstate New York was a little weird. Didn't really improve my opinion of the place.
This is a review of a shell steak. I cannot get it out of my head. The meat is marinated and tender and super fresh. It's cooked to perfection. It comes with this extremely garlicky lime sauce that is absolutely the best thing I've ever tasted, and compliments it all perfectly. I will go back to this place and forgive any other flaw to have another one of those shell steaks. Our wait time was long (forgivable, they were very busy.) Our table was a little cramped. You have to pay for the first round of chips (though it seems like all subsequent refills are free.) But that shell steak was so good that it negates what would've otherwise been a four star review. They also had a fantastic drink selection and their cold bar was great. The pickled onions in particular are worth the walk up there alone. But holy cow, the quality of that steak just sets this place apart so much for me. I'll be back many times over for that alone.
