Formally a tourist hot spot in the heart of New York’s Little Italy, Bella Ciao, meaning “goodbye beautiful” –and inspired by a folk song from Italy— has taken over the spot of Capri, known for its attraction to tourists and quality Italian dining. The new spot, with its new name is fitting, as the owner, Marcello Assante of Local 92, Capri and Marcellino to name a few, is saying goodbye to his previous restaurant and creating a new community gathering place, to bring a sense of unity and belonging in the strange time of the pandemic when New Yorkers seek places of comfort and gathering.
