We went to this Babes last night. Our server, Joy, was pleasant and the food was good (we had catfish and the usual sides, plus black eyed peas) but there was one person working that made the night less than great. There was a short-haired, white, older lady working - my guess is that she's a manager - and because of her proximity to us from where she was posted up while we were there and due to her loud voice, I heard her complaints about several employees and how she didn't care if/how someone was looking at security footage. As a customer, I didn't care to hear all of that while I was trying to enjoy my meal. Also, shortly after we were seated, they sat another very large party - maybe a youth sports team. Some of the adults/chaperones from that party were seated next to us. That short haired lady wanted to switch out one of their chairs for ours so without asking, she quickly pulled the chair directly next to me to give to them, which knocked my new purse straight to the floor. I was upset. I told her, "Wait. Waiiittt!!!" Without apologizing, she just says, "Well they're a large party and kinda bombarded us." What? What does that have to do with your lack of professionalism? I was not happy. Again, Joy was wonderful and the food was good, but that lady left a bad taste in my mouth and I will more than likely patronize other Babes in the metroplex from now on.
Great fried chicken tenders and fried steak. You order your protein, then all the sides come family style and are endless. Gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, beans, biscuits, and some creamy sweet corn and salad. Great home cooked taste. Casual, loudish atmosphere. About 20 a person. Worth the price. Dessert is mid. Not vegetarian friendly
I went the other day and had the chicken tenders, my buddy had the chicken fried steak. And the sides were tops. Our waitress was super nice I want to say her name was Laurie, Laura, I can’t remember exactly, but if you go ask for her. She was on top of everything. The environment was fun and pretty chill. I liked the music, if you like oldies (I do), or country, you’ll dig it. The managers just seemed smug and off putting. Prices are NOT low, actually they are a little high for my liking. About $22/person. If you’re on a budget, don’t go. If you’re a cheapskate don’t go, if you’re not going to tip, don’t go, if you think 10% - 15% is “a good tip”, again don’t go. These people are good at what they do. If you want to take your leftover veggies home bring your own tupperware, apparently it’s against “policy” to take YOUR own food home for leftovers, and your waiter/waitress will get in trouble for providing one. They have these weird little baggies hanging on the wall for your meats you didn’t eat (Because I want to take home something covered in gravy in a little bag), that’s dumb. The meats are Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken, Smoked Chicken, Chicken Tenders, and Catfish. The vegetables are Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Corn, a Vegetable Of The Day, and you get a very basic salad with this sweet vinegary dressing (you can order it dry and bring your own dressing from home) It’s served FAMILY STYLE. For those of you that may lack skills of understanding, what that means is they place the meat you choose on ONE PLATE, all the fried chicken one plate, all the tenders on one plate, etc. then they bring out all the vegetables for you and your family to share. No need for “What?”, “Who”, “I don’t understand”, it’s a simple concept.
