San Diego’s favorite soul food has a new location! Now open in Downtown San Diego. From it’s beginnings in the back counter of Donut Star, Ali’s Chicken and Waffles is bringing the same flavor that the city has grown to love to their new spot, serving a halal rendition of the famous pairing alongside shrimp and grits, fried chicken sandwiches, and more. Ali, the Ethiopia-born entrepreneur recalls the impression waffles made on him as a young immigrant first arriving in a San Diego school. By the time he earned a business degree from San Diego State, he and a friend decided to launch the Ali’s Chicken brand. His chicken is seasoned in a blend of three flours, with a spicy option heated by Thai chilis.
