Fantastic tasting menu. every course was a hit and the staff were excellent. will definitely be back Vegetarian options: they have vegetarian tasting menu
Four hours flew by filled with conversation, dining, and laughter. Heron is a masterclass in fine dining done right. Situated with a gorgeous river view and a warm welcoming interior we had the best Michelin experience yet. The dishes were varied and ample, experimental but not pretentious, and most importantly absolutely delicious. Wine pairing was superb with our passionate sommelier explaining the origin of each wine but also what to expect with the pairing. Vegetarian options: Tasting menu has vegetarian alternative and Heron was accommodating to alternate only specific dishes.
Fantastic dinner. We had the tasting menu which was really good value for fine dining.
Important to first stress that all of our courses were delicious and expertly prepared ! (bar the opening onion broth - a bit insipid, not needed) everything else was what you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant dining experience. The 3 star rating is related to the portion sizing and overall value for money. There are two options for dinner ‘6 course tasting’ and 3 course la carte, the different being £25.00. We chose 3 course a la carte £95 per head. The portion sizes we received would be correct for a tasting menu, but you expect more food on the plate for a 3 course a la carte dinner. The staff were nicely attentive and really efficient (especially when it can to refilling our water glasses which we began to suspect was to fill us up). Heron offers 2 x wine parings for the a la carte menu. The wine selections were also excellent, but like the portion sizes the measures they give are the least you can get away with. This maybe part of an ‘ethos’ - less is more, but this was a dinner, not a lunch menu, and not lunch pricing. The price of 3 a la carte menus, 2 wine pairings (that’s 6 glasses total), 3 glasses of champagne, coffees + service charge left us £538 lighter and a feeling we’d need to share a chippy on our way home. I have enjoyed lots of great Michelin starred & recommended meals over the past few years. This was absolutely on par with other menus, however, I’ve never felt peckish after finishing a meal before.
I have been eagerly awaiting this meal and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. I had the vegetarian a la carte menu and was blown away by the range of flavours and textures - especially the Roscoff Onion and the courgette three ways. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, too.
A carefully crafted dining experience presented in an uncomplicated fashion. Delicious flavour combinations. Will definitely return.
We’ve been to Heron twice, before and after they were awarded their Michelin star and both times the food was excellent! Here you will find Scottish flavors fused with European techniques and ingredients. They have a great wine list too. We found the service and the atmosphere to be quite relaxed for our taste, but overall we enjoyed our visits.
