Mel's Kitchen

While I miss Mels Diner, Mels Kitchen has kept some of my favorite dishes, but still feels limited. The updated restaurant looks modern. Due to post pandemic lows in tourists, patrons are few and staff seem stretched. I hope this changes soon. I would like to see this restaurant thrive again.

Great classic diner. Perfect for bringing friends, family, or just yourself some coffee and food. Peaceful and comforting interior, service staff is always prompt and attentive. Get the Chilaquiles!

A nice diner experience with good comfort food. Clean and comfortable with attentive staff.

There's a big sign in front. Smash Burger. Great. That's what I'll order. The meat patty was the size of a silver dollar coin. A full sized bun, with lettuce, tomato, pickle, cheese. Everything that you want, except that there was literally 1 ounce of meat. The meat patty was less than 2 inches in diameter. A hamburger bun is 4 inches in diameter. They are serving a slider sized patty of meat on a full size bun. 1 star service. It wasn't bad. There just wasn't any service. The little saucer with the cups of creamer, had opened and used containers. Someone else opened the creamer, the empty container was placed back into the saucer, and the waiter (not the waitress) brought it to me. He literally put a plate of garbage on my table. I saw the guy once after he took the order. He just put the plate down as he was walking by, without stopping. Then he disappeared and I never saw him again. Nobody checked on the table. Nobody refilled beverages. No condiments. No extra napkins. Nothing. What kind of tip is he expecting? Way to go Mel's. Next time, please use lubrication so that it doesn't hurt so much.

Very good 1st experience earlier today.

We popped in for a quick bite before a music show at the Regency Ballroom (couple blocks up the street) We were greeted by Antonia, who has a good sense of humor and uses it. We had some onion rings, chicken tenders& mozzarella sticks. All very healthy ! Also had soup. The tomatoes basil soup was surprisingly GREAT. As well as the chicken noodles soup which was packed w/ chicken. Will go again !

Solid grub. The chilaquiles with chorizo were good and hot spicy, though the best thing was the shake.
