Taking in a TSO concert is a delightful and memorable experience. The TSO performs staples of the repertoire as well as newer pieces and commissions, and they play them beautifully. Balcony seats give a balanced sound and a good view of all the musicians; however, vocals can sound a tad muted, and for people uneasy with heights, the balconies' low railings are not reassuring. I chose a choir loft seat for a piano concerto, where I had a great view of everyone on stage, and I could easily hear and discern the various instruments. A downside to the concerts—though a problem that plagues classical music concerts in general—is that the audience's much overplayed and unwanted symphony of coughs finds its way into every program.
Fantastic experience and rather inexpensive. If you haven't been, it's a great excuse to dress up and enjoy high culture.
DECEMBER 2023: Another wonderful concert. Less traditional Christmas standards than 2022 but stellar performances! Nine of us thoroughly enjoyed this year’s TSO Holiday Pops, featuring Broadway stars Nikki Renée Daniels and Paul Alexander Nolan and an almost 90 member choir from the Etobicoke School of Arts. It was a wonderful of Christmas and Holiday music, especially after a long Covid hiatus.
